Post-Natal Diet - Some Beef Recipes

     

    BEEF STIR-FRIED WITH GARLIC STEMS & BLACK FUNGUS

    (Wood Fungus is said to have properties of cleansing the arteries & getting rid of stale blood - the lochia)

    1 small bunch of Garlic Stems ("Kow Choi Fa")
    a few dried Wood Fungus
    50g Beef
    2 slices Ginger
    2 Tbsp Carrot, finely shredded
    1 tsp Chinese Rice Wine

    Seasoning:
    2tsp light soy sauce, ¼ tsp sugar, ½ tsp cornflour, dash of sesame oil, dash of pepper.

    Sauce: 1/3 tsp salt, ¼ tsp sugar, ½ tsp cornflour, few drops of sesame oil, 1 tsp light soy, 2 tbsp water.
     

  • Wash & Cut the garlic stems into 3cm strips. Gently fry with oil & dish up.
  • Soak, wash & shred Wood Fungus. Parboil, drain & set aside.
  • Cut Beef into strips, marinate with seasoning for 15mins. Saute in warm oil, dish up.
  • Heat Oil, saute ginger, wood fungus, and carrots. Add beef & garlic stem. Add wine, stir in sauce. Fry/Mix well. Then dish up & serve.

    FRIED BEEF WITH KAI LAN

    (Kai Lan is said to benefit the spinal cord & kidneys. Beef is "blood-building".)

    300g Lean Beef
    300g Kai Lan
    2 slices old ginger, shredded
    1 clove garlic, shredded/minced
    1 tsp Chinese Rice Wine
    ½ Tbsp Sesame Seed Oil 1Tbsp Oil

    Seasoning: ½ tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar, ½ tsp light soya sauce. Marinate : 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp light soya sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1Tbsp cornflour, 1 Tbsp Oil
     

  • Rinse & pat dry beef. Slice thinly across the grain. Marinate for 15mins.
  • Slice off the fibrous parts of Kai Lan Stems. Cut into thick slices. Wash & drain.
  • Heat oil , then fry ginger & garlic until fragrant.
  • Put in Kai Lan & seasoning & stiry-fry for 2mins. Remove & set aside.
  • Reheat wok with sesame seed oil until hot. Then add marinated beef & stir-fry for 2mins.

  • Return vegetables to wok & stir-fry with beef for a while. Serve.
