Sling Carrying Instructions: [Cradle Hold]  [Snuggle Hold]  [Lying Down [Hip Carry [Kangaroo [Piggy Back

LYING-DOWN / BREASTFEEDING POSITION (From Newborn Onwards)

You may use either arm or either shoulder interchangeably.  For purposes of easier illustration, we have used the arm/shoulder that is seen in the photos in the descriptions.

STARTING BASICS
T1) Loop the Tail through 2 rings.
Then put over the nearest ring, and under the next.  Spread the tail evenly around the rings

T2) Put Sling with label & rings facing front on one shoulder.
T3) Pass the Sling OVER your head to rest on the other shoulder, so that the sling is slung diagonally over your body.

This shoulder portion should rest nicely and broadly over your shoulder for even weight distribution while carrying your child.

T4) Ensure that the back portion of the sling fabric is not twisted but evenly spread with the edges roughly parallel.

STEPS FOR YOUNGER BABIES
NEWBORN TO 6 MONTHS
Breastfeeding Hold 1
B1) FOR BABIES *,
With sling on, carry  baby  first.
Just like how you would normally carry
your baby in the lying-down position.

Carry baby in such a way that you are able to hold & support baby totally in one arm.

(Notice how baby's head rests
on the crook of my elbow,
my arm supports head, neck, body,
 and hands hold the legs.)

* Instructions B1 to B6 are for Babies from Newborn to 5 months old when their back and neck control is not quite so strong yet.

B2) While still holding your baby, pull on the outer edge of the sling pouch.  Bring this outer edge to wrap over his back and shoulders .

1.  For newborns, bring the fabric to cover the legs; that is, baby's legs are fully covered in the sling's pouch

2. For older babies, legs may be left out of sling's pouch.  As such, bring fabric to cover just under the knees.  Baby's bottom will be fully covered to the knees.  Legs from knees down will be out of the sling's pouch.

(See photo above & B10 below)

B3) Now wrap the Inner Edge of the sling pouch around the baby's body, and  pull it  towards the side of the rings.

The inner edge of the  sling pouch will now lie flat against your chest between you and baby.

B4) Using the opposite arm to support the baby now (right arm in the photo).

Use this arm to support baby's body all the way up to the neck and head. Slowly remove your left arm so that it is now OUTSIDE the sling's pouch.  You will now support baby AND pouch from the outside with this arm.

B5)  Pull gently on the tail with eg. your right arm.  This is to size the sling pouch down to roughly the size you need.

Remember that you need to support the weight of child/sling before pulling on tail.  If not, the weight of the child wil hang on the sling rings and will *lock* the fabric at the rings.

B6) Once size of pouch is roughly about the right size for your baby, you may find that it is STILL not the exact fit, and that some edges may still be a little loose.

To finish adjusting, use your arm (in this case - left arm)  to  lift and support the weight of your child AND the sling.

Then use right hand to gently pull on the inner and outer edges of the sling tail. until you get a snug fit.
(See also Photo B12)

The outer edge of the sling pouch will be around your baby's neck or ears.  You may use your arm to continue cradling your baby for additional support.

As you become an experienced sling user, you will find it very easy to interchange between this position and the Hip Carry and these positions will be super-great for travelling around with a baby!

STEPS FOR OLDER BABIES/TODDLERS

B7) FOR OLDER CHILDREN,
Do bend your knees when picking up.

(The instructions for B7 to B12 are similar to Instructions for B1 to B6,
but with slight variations as may be expected for older children who have better back and neck control.)

B8) Lift your child while bending your knees.
This is wise to protect against backstrain.

B9) With sling on, carry  child first.

While having the child leaning high against your chest & shoulders, bring the whole sling pouch over both
 his legs.

B10) Cradle your child in the lying-down position, pull outer edge of sling pouch to wrap over his back, up to his shoulders.  Now pull on the inner edge of the sling pouch and wrap over his body and bottom,  right to the back of his knees.

While cradling & supporting your child AND the sling, PULL all extra fabric towards the direction of the rings.  This enables you to adjust away the excess cloth.

B11) Support Child's weight and the Sling with eg. your left arm.

Gently pull on the tail with eg. your right arm.  This will help size the sling pouch down.

Remember that you need to support the weight of child/sling before pulling on tail.  If not, the weight of the child wil hang on the sling rings and will *lock* the fabric at the rings.

B12) Once you have the sling pouch roughly the size you need, you will find that the edges might still be a little slack.

Again, eg. use your left hand/arm to  lift and support the weight of your child AND the sling.

Then use eg. your right hand to gently pull on the edges of the sling that will adjust the outer and inner edge of the sling pouch.  That way, you will have the customised snug fit you need.

Note that your child should be around waist level and no lower.  Any lower, and you will feel back strain.
